Cleanup will continue Friday at the scene of Thursday’s train derailment and fire in the western Minnesota community of Raymond. Crews have started moving some of the 22 derailed cars to better access the handful still burning.
Cars carrying ethanol and corn syrup left the tracks early Thursday, leading officials to evacuate the small town of Raymond, about 90 miles west of the Twin Cities. People were being allowed to return home as of noon. No injuries were reported.
“There is currently zero evidence of a tank breach or any leaks, and air and water monitoring resources are in place,” according to Louisville Metro Emergency Services in Kentucky.
Heating pads behind the mirrors may not be bonded properly, which could lead to the mirror glass falling out. The recalled vehicles include recent-model Odysseys, Passports, Pilots and Ridgelines.
Authorities say there is no threat to public safety, and there were no injuries or fire. Over 30 of the 70 cars on the train left the tracks around 11:15 p.m. Sunday, and some of the cars leaked liquid asphalt. But there are no waterways near where the derailment happened.
