Emergency plan activated in North Dakota amid fall snowstorm
The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for northern North Dakota and winter storm warnings and watches elsewhere in the state and into parts of South Dakota and Minnesota through Saturday afternoon.
An intense snowstorm will continue this Friday and on into Saturday in the eastern half of North Dakota, withe heavy snow also spreading into portions of northwestern and west-central Minnesota. Fierce winds and snowstorm totals of 1 to 3 feet are expected in parts of North Dakota. Portions of northwestern Minnesota could see a foot of snow by Saturday morning, with severe drifting of snow due to strong winds. The Twin Cities metro area could see some minor snow accumulation from this storm, with chilly temperatures lingering through the weekend.

Travel may become impossible in much of North Dakota from late Thursday through Friday night due to heavy snow and fierce winds. Northwestern Minnesota will see rain initially, which will change to a rain-snow mix and then all snow later Thursday, and continue as all snow Thursday night and Friday. Winter storm warnings start at 7 p.m. Thursday in part of far northwestern Minnesota.
