Myon Burrell, a man who was sentenced to life behind bars as a teenager, walked out of a Minnesota prison Tuesday to the sound of ringing bells and cheers from supporters, hours after a pardons board commuted his sentence in a high-profile murder case.

Minnesota health officials reported 67 more COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, pushing the December death toll to 766. It’s now killing Minnesotans at a rate far higher than any recent flu season; about one-third of all recent deaths in Minnesota are tied to COVID-19.
