Stars, stripes and sweat: A hot and humid 4th of July
Hot and humid conditions are set to take over this Fourth of July, making for a sweltering holiday. But the heat isn’t the only concern — a cold front pushing in from the Dakotas could trigger strong to severe storms across parts of the state, with some potentially arriving right around fireworks time.
Warm night ahead sets the stage for sizzling Fourth of July
A mild, muggy Thursday night will lead us into a hot July 4 holiday. Temperatures will climb back into the 90s, with heat advisories in effect for parts of the state. There’s also an increasing risk for severe thunderstorms Thursday night and Friday night.
Temperatures and dew points rise with storms late Friday
It’ll be another warmer-than-normal day with highs near 90 across southern Minnesota. Friday will be hot and very humid. Storms develop late Friday into Friday night and Saturday.
Heating up Thursday and Friday with storms late Friday
There’s a very isolated shower or thunderstorm risk through sunset. We’ll have another isolated chance mainly in southeast Minnesota Thursday. Friday still looks hot.
Less humid and lots of sun for the start of July
We get a brief break from the more humid air of recent days today. Look for lots of sunshine too. Temperatures and humidity increase this week with some storm chances too.
Dry at last; tranquil Tuesday in store
Breezy winds will diminish into Monday night, bringing a clear and calm evening. Finally, a dry day is in the forecast for Tuesday with temperatures warming up as we head into the holiday week.
Cooler Monday: breezes pick up with scattered showers and storms
After several days of stormy weather, we’re finally entering a much-needed stretch of quieter conditions. While some scattered showers and thunderstorms may still pop up, no severe weather is expected. Looking ahead, a gradual warmup is on the way, setting the stage for our holiday week.
Drop in dew points with cold front; continued chance for severe
An advancing cold front will drop dew points into the 50s, but there’s still a chance for stronger storms to develop in southeastern Minnesota tonight. The start of the holiday week is looking quieter with seasonal temperatures.
