Part 2: Additional snow ahead Wednesday
Our 2-part storm system is ready to deliver additional snowfall Wednesday.
Heavy snow, along with some freezing rain, and even some reports of thunder and lightning, continues across much of southern Minnesota in the first round of a multi-part winter storm. By the time it's done, snow totals could exceed a foot in parts of southwestern Minnesota and 5 to 10 inches in the Twin Cities. This is an MPR News evening update for Jan. 3, 2023. Significant snow and ice in southern Minnesota Tuesday; more snow Wednesday
The early to mid afternoon hours will see very heavy snowfall in the Twin Cities with one inch per hour or more of snowfall. We’ll then see a break late in the afternoon and early evening before lighter to moderate snow redevelops.

No-travel advisories issued as another winter storm sweeps across Minnesota
Authorities issued a no-travel advisory for parts of southwest Minnesota on Tuesday, as a winter storm continued to bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the region. The National Weather Service reported thundersnow and thundersleet at Albert Lea and Waseca.
U.S. beats Germany 11-1 in junior hockey quarterfinals
Minnesota freshman Logan Cooley had three goals and an assist and UMass sophomore Ryan Ufko set up five goals as the United States beat Germany 11-1 in the world junior hockey championship quarterfinals.
Edwards scores 29, short-handed Wolves beat Nuggets 124-111
Anthony Edwards scored 29 points, including 15 in the third quarter to help Minnesota withstand a push by Denver, and the Timberwolves held on for a 124-111 win against the Nuggets.
