Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were fatally shot on June 14, 2025, in their Brooklyn Park home, and Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were wounded at their Champlin residence in a series of politically motivated attacks allegedly carried out by Vance Boelter.

Mourners gathered outside the Minnesota Capitol building Sunday to remember the life of Rep. Melissa Hortman and her spouse, Mark Hortman. Those in attendance added flowers, cards and candles to a memorial in front of the Capitol steps. The couple’s daughter and son issued a statement in tribute to their parents.
