It’ll be cooler overnight, especially north Tuesday night. Southern Minnesota climbs back above freezing for highs Wednesday. A wintry mix of precipitation is possible late Thursday. 
Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association criticizes state Department of Corrections
The Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association and the state Department of Corrections are each accusing the other of failing to work together on issues relating to county jail inspections. The association says its members supported a resolution calling on Corrections Commissioner Paul Schnell to resign.
What to do about rising home insurance costs
Property taxes, groceries and home insurance costs are all on the rise for Minnesotans. “Insurance is getting more expensive because the cost of repairing homes is getting more expensive,” said Julia Dreier, deputy commissioner of insurance for the Minnesota Department of Commerce. She recommends reviewing your policy carefully.

Barry Manilow has early-stage lung cancer and will undergo surgery
Barry Manilow will have surgery to remove a cancerous spot on his left lung, and has rescheduled his upcoming concerts in January. The singer announced on Instagram that doctors caught it “so early” thanks to an MRI in the wake of a long bout with bronchitis.
Slightly cooler Tuesday but more melting ahead
Temperatures will be nearly steady Tuesday and cooler, but still above normal for southern Minnesota. More melting is on the way Wednesday through Saturday. 
Minnesota’s largest school district is staring down a walkout in the new year. The Anoka-Hennepin teacher union says it has filed an intent to strike.
