Brief cooldown Saturday before record heat Sunday
A slight dip in temperatures Saturday before a summer-like heat wave arrives Sunday. Record setting temperatures are possible on Sunday. The combination of heat, low humidity, and gusty winds will also heighten the risk of critical fire weather across the region.
The heat is on: Very warm temps, fire weather watch this weekend
Unseasonably warm temperatures are forecast across the region this weekend with highs climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s. The combination of dry conditions, low humidity and gusty winds has prompted a fire weather watch.
July-like days ahead with little to no rain
Get ready for more summerlike warmth Friday into next week. Just isolated showers or a thunderstorm are possible late Friday with a weak front.
Coolish Thursday before heating up Friday
While cooler than earlier in the week, temperatures will still be slightly above normal Thursday. Highs in the 80s are back Friday into next week.
Cooler but still above normal Wednesday, Thursday
Temperatures will be cooler by about 10 to 15 degrees but still above normal Wednesday and Thursday. Summer warmth returns Friday.
Paul Huttner remembers living through the worst tornado outbreak in Minnesota history
The May 6, 1965, tornado outbreak was a rare Oklahoma-style weather event in Minnesota. Four of the six violent twisters were rated F4 on the Fujita scale with estimated winds at more than 200 mph. The devastating twisters killed 13 people and injured at least 500 more. MPR News Chief Meteorologist Paul Huttner was a preschooler at the time, but he remembers the day vividly.
