North Star Journey elevates stories about Minnesota’s diverse communities

Testimony got underway Monday in the trial of a man charged with lying to a federal grand jury about absentee ballot fraud. Muse Mohamud Mohamed is charged with two counts of making false statements to a grand jury during an investigation that followed the August 2020 primary for a Minnesota Senate seat. In filings, prosecutors allege that Muse Mohamed sent three absentee ballots to the Minneapolis elections office on behalf of three voters using a process called “agent delivery.” This is a morning update from MPR News, hosted by Cathy Wurzer. Russia pounds Ukraine's vital port of Odesa, Mariupol plant
Ukrainian officials say Russian forces have pounded away at the vital port of Odesa, as part of an apparent effort to disrupt supply lines and weapons shipments. On the other end of the southern coast, they hammered a steel plant where Ukrainian fighters are preventing Moscow’s full control of another critical port.

Former Timberwolves, Michigan State star Adreian Payne shot, killed
Former Michigan State basketball standout and NBA player Adreian Payne has died in a shooting. He was 31. The sheriff's office in Orange County, Florida said deputies responded to a shooting Monday morning when Payne was identified and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
