St. Paul City Council signals willingness to adjust marijuana ordinance; Twin Metals faces more legal blockades

The original proposal would have made it a petty misdemeanor to smoke cannabis or tobacco products on city-controlled property, including parks and sidewalks. But council members may adjust the proposal. And late Wednesday a U.S. District Court Judge dismissed a lawsuit that Twin Metals filed last year to try revive its stalled attempt to develop a proposed copper-nickel mine on the doorstep of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Rebate checks look like junk mail; Carlton County wildfire continues burning

The state Department of Revenue says some Minnesotans are mistaking rebate checks for junk mail and discarding them. And crews continued work Wednesday to extinguish a 40-acre wildfire in Carlton County that ignited on Labor Day. The fire has forced the evacuation of six homes. Air quality alert for NW Minnesota; 1st day of school for many students

Tuesday is the first day of school for most districts. Other schools started before Labor Day. Minneapolis and St. Paul schools sent out reminders Monday, encouraging parents to make sure their kids are hydrated and are dressed for the heat. Most of Minnesota will be hot, but also smoky in some places, too.

Cargo ship sets sail with 'WindWings' created by Minnesota's Cargill

Minnesota-based Cargill has developed modern sails they’re calling ‘WindWings’ that allow giant cargo ships to harness wind energy. And last week, the first ever vessel outfitted with the giant 123-foot sails embarked on a test journey from China to Brazil.

Teen pleads guilty in fatal shooting; more charges in Minneapolis Medicaid fraud

A teenager pleaded guilty Wednesday to shooting and killing a St. Paul man during a car theft. Michael Scott Brasel, 44, was killed in front of his house in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood in May.
